What are the most demanded services in the hotel?
Travelers around the world maintain that wi-fi is the service they consider most essential when choosing a hotel for both leisure and business travel, although, according to the latest global survey conducted by Hotels.com, this trend is declining.
FREE Wi-fi
• The 50% of travelers consider that free wi-fi should be included in business travel, while two years ago 56% felt this way. Focusing on Spain, 57% of Spaniards consider this service necessary when traveling.
• The 60% of those surveyed would likeía include as a standard service for this year in all hotels free wi-fi, 6% less than in 2013. In Spain this trend is lower, únly a 48% of Spanish travelers would like to include this service.
These trends are marked by the growth in the offering of wi-fi in public spaces over the last few years and an increase in the number of users who want to use it;internet and data plan on mobile phones improved, travelers are becoming less and less dependent on wireless connectivity in the hotel.
FOOD AND DRINK
• The free breakfast is again the second most requested service by leisure travelers;The second most requested service by leisure travelers, with 21% of the votes, and the third most requested service by business travelers, with 12% of the votes. They also chose being close to public transport, restaurants and shops as a second option
rather than a free meal. In Spain, the option of breakfast at zero cost is the second most claimed service with 17% of votes from leisure travelers and third from those traveling on business, with only 6%.The most desired breakfast foods are fresh fruit and coffee or tea, with a tie vote of 16%; meat and eggs, both at 12%; and bread or toast and a wide selection of juices at 8%. In Spain, coffee or tea accounts for 42% of the votes, while bread or toast is the second most demanded food with 36%. Eggs come in third place, with 23% of the votes.
•Latest-generation in-room coffee makers or coffee machines are among the most desired amenities by all travelers with 23% of the votes. In Spain, only 12% of travelers want this convenience, while 48% would prefer to have a smart room rather than a state-of-the-art coffee maker.
• 33% of travelers say they would like to find a water bottle in their room. Spain follows closely behind the global average, with 30% of the votes.
• Of the amenities and services offered by hotels, free breakfast is the absolute winner, with 27% of travelers wishing to include this service in hotels this year, followed by a refrigerator for personal use, with 15%.Only 3% of travelers would do without free breakfast in order to reduce the cost of the room. Spanish travelers also chose free breakfast with 25% of the votes, followed by ergonomic mattresses with 14%.
• The most popular service among travelers worldwide is a chocolate room to sweeten up before bedtime.
OTHER SERVICES
Travelers around the world can also enjoy other services besides free Wi-Fi and breakfast.
• The smart rooms with a control knob for multiple functions and docking areas for smart devices are second and third with 22% and 15%, respectively. In Spain, latest-generation coffee machines and massage chairs are second and third, respectively, with 12% of the vote for both options.
• Far behind wi-fi on the list of the most desired technological services are charging stations for electronic devices and high-definition televisions, both with 8%. In Spain, travelers prefer to have high-definition TVs (17%) and charging stations (12%).
MINIBARS
• 24% of international travelers say that minibars are not worthwhile and 17% say they don't use them.
• The teléphones are also not considered very important: bathroom phones are the least-used item (22%) and wireless phones received only 1% of the vote in determining the most desired hotel amenities. In Spain, 28% of travelers surveyed said they never use bathroom phones, while 26% said they have never used DVD players.
