The BT & MICE industry calls for certainty and guarantees of mobility after the railway crisis
In a statement released this week, the sector emphasizes that the holding of professional meetings is structurally dependent on an efficient, reliable, and safe transport network and warns of direct consequences such as cancellations, lower attendance, and increased logistics costs. The situation, it points out, is also causing a reputational decline that could compromise future international bids.
The industry recalls that Spain has been a benchmark for years in both rail infrastructure and event organization, and warns that the current perception of uncertainty "transcends the operational sphere and extends to the economic and reputational spheres." The loss of connectivity and the increased cost of alternatives are affecting the mobility of delegates and the planning of organizers at a time when accessibility is a decisive factor in the choice of venue.
Clear information
The MICE Forum is calling for "clear, transparent, and unified information on the actual state of the rail network" and a specific timetable for the restoration of frequencies where traffic is viable. The statement insists that "safety is a priority and must be unquestionable," but stresses that this must be accompanied by continuous communication that allows companies and attendees to plan with certainty.
The sector is also calling for explicit guarantees of mobility and support measures for economic activities directly affected by the situation.
The meetings industry points out that it acts as a generator of employment, attracts international investment, and boosts the business fabric, and warns that its sustainability is compromised without a reliable transport network. Despite this, it reiterates its willingness to collaborate with the authorities to accelerate the return to normal operations and restore user confidence.
