Agencies are seeing an increase in itineraries created using AI that require corrections

Artificial intelligence has become a common tool for travel planning, but it doesn't always generate viable itineraries. DIT Gestión reports that more and more travelers are turning to travel agencies with AI-generated proposals that require adjustments before they can be booked, which reinforces the role of the travel agent as an advisor capable of validating routes, correcting errors, and adapting each trip to practical realities.

Artificial intelligence has become a standard tool for travel planning. More and more travelers are turning to AI platforms to design itineraries, compare destinations or create itineraries in just a few seconds?a trend that is also changing the relationship between customers and travel agencies.

According to DIT Gestión, a management group for independent travel agencies on the Iberian PeninsulaIberian Peninsula, the number of people who visit an agency with an itinerary generated by artificial intelligence and request only its validation or the handling of reservations is on the rise.

However, the agencies? experience shows that many of these plans require corrections before they can become an actual trip.

From Itinerary to Reality

Among the most common errors detected are unfeasible connections, insufficient travel time, accommodations that don?t align with the route, overly tight schedules, or outdated information regarding entry requirements and operational procedures for certain destinations.

DIT Gestión emphasizes that these limitations do not call into question the potential of artificial intelligence as a source of inspiration. Its ability to process large volumes of information and propose personalized alternatives is particularly useful during the early stages of planning.

However, turning those suggestions into an actual trip requires taking into account variables that go beyond the information available through an automated search.

The Value of Advice

?Artificial intelligence makes it possible to inspire, compare, and organize a trip in a very short time. However, transforming that information into a truly viable itinerary requires analyzing many factors that do not always appear in an automated search: actual connections, the pace of the trip, the traveler?s profile, seasonality, or the ability to respond to any unforeseen events", explain representatives from DIT Gestión.

In this context, the company believes that the travel agent is evolving toward a role with greater added value, focused on interpreting the information, adapting it to the customer?s needs, and supporting them before, during, and after the trip.

A complementary tool

Far from replacing professional advice, DIT Gestión understands that artificial intelligence is being incorporated into the sector as a complementary tool, capable of streamlining thesearch for information and inspire travelers, just as comparison sites, metasearch engines, and online booking platforms did in their day.

The difference, they point out, still lies in professional judgment. While artificial intelligence organizes information and generates suggestions, the travel agent evaluates them, adapts them to each traveler?s circumstances, and offers solutions when changes or unforeseen events arise during the trip.

Because planning a trip isn?t just about designing an attractive itinerary, but about ensuring that every connection is feasible, every decision is well-founded, and the traveler has the support of a professional when they need it most.
