Stations and trains to offer wifi before the end of the year

Renfe and Adif plan to generalize the wifi offer throughout 2015. The wireless Internet connection will reach stations in June, while trains will have to wait until the end of the year. The service will benefit 400 million travelers.

Según the president of Renfe, Pablo Vázquez, the enabling of this service will introduce the "railroad in the world of innovation". The wifi is a strategic project for Renfe, it will allow it to facilitate and obtain information in real time, improve and make the commercial policy more flexible and have a new transmission channel," added Vázquez.

The new Internet connection service that Renfe and Adif are finalizing will benefit the 400 million passengers who use the railroad every year, of which some 370 million correspond to users of the Cercanías service.

Apart from the wifi, Renfe is considering placing advertising on the exterior of its trains, including high-speed trains (AVE), to optimize the value of these assets as an advertising medium, according to the company's president. The operator claims to have already received requests from some companies.
