Spanish passport becomes the most recognized passport in the world

The latest update of the VisaGuide World Passport Index has seen the Spanish passport become the world's most recognized passport, having climbed four places since the last review in April, when it was ranked fifth. That means it gives entry access like no other to a greater number of countries with the fewest requirements, especially obtaining a visa.

The top 10 passports with the highest creditworthiness are, in this order, Spain, Singapore, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The top 20 in the list are all European, with the exception of Singapore and Japan, which appears in fifth place.

The VisaGuide system scores each travel destination on the basis of its passport entry policy, GDP, Energy Index, Tourism Index and Human Development Index (HDI), among other factors. The DSS is multiplied by the value of the destination country's visa requirement for selected passport holders.

The qualification takes into account whether an entry visa is required, whether there is the possibility of obtaining an electronic authorization, the visa-on-arrival option, e-visa, embassy visas and even passport-free travel, as is the case, for example, in the Schengen Area of the European Union.

In the April 2023 ranking, Spain ranked fifth, with 88.95 points, behind Japan, with 89.76 points, which was then number one worldwide. In second place was Singapore, and in third and fourth were Italy and Germany, respectively.

Singapore, with 89.76 points, then ranked number one worldwide.
