Spanish lodging rates rise 4% in one year

Hotel prices in Spain are up 4% compared to May last year and 2% compared to April, according to the latest tHPI wave of Trivago.es. The average rate in our country stands at 113 euros per night, somewhat cheaper than the European rate, around 131.

Among the cities studied, Castellón (60€), A Coruña (61€), Lugo (61€), Lleida (62€) and Oviedo (63€) turn out to be the most economical this month. At the other extreme are Barcelona (167€), Palma de Mallorca (155€), Córdoba (135€), San Sebastián (122€) and Madrid (120€) as the cities where it is most expensive to stay overnight.

As for the variation of prices in a year, Girona is the city that has experienced the most pronounced change, specifically, an increase of 31%. Also noteworthy San Sebastián where hotel prices have risen 23% compared to 2015 and 26% with compared to last month. Meanwhile, in Toledo down 12%, and in A Coruña and Lugo, down 8% year-on-year.

The regions with the highest average prices are CataluñaBalearic IslandsMadrid and País Vasco, offering an average of over 100€ per night. Meanwhile, Asturias (65€), Galicia (67€), Cantabria (70€) and Aragon (72€), are the cheapest. The Basque Country stands out this month as the region with the highest year-on-year increase, up 12%. On the opposite side is Castilla-La Mancha and Navarra where prices are down 7% and 4%.

IN EUROPE

This month the countries cheapest places to stay are Bulgaria (49€), Romaniaía (61€) and Russia (62€). Meanwhile, Switzerland (202€), Denmark (180€) and Sweden (168€) are the countries with the highest average hotel prices. Russia and Turkey continue their downward trend: their prices are down 19% and 26%. On the other hand, Sweden, Ireland and Denmark are up 17%, 14% and 12% respectively.

Among the most important European cities, Milán stands out: average hotel prices have fallen by 35% in one year, from 200€ to 130€. Likewise, a recent study by trivago shows that the Italian city, on the occasion of the Champions League final, has increased its prices by 268% for the night of the match, costing an average of 479€. On the contrary, in Porto they are up 26% compared to 2015, rising from 74€ to 93€.
