Hotel price increases in 2017 were notable in Spain and the rest of Europe

The analysis of hotel prices over the past year shows high increases, according to HRS Price Radar. In the case of Spain, the average was 9.8%, with the highest increases in Alicante, Malaga, Madrid and Barcelona. In the rest of Europe, Prague, Moscow, Athens, Lisbon and Warsaw have risen the most.

In Spain, the average price per person per roomón stands at 101 €, in contrast to the 92 €  reached in 2016, according to data from HRS Price Radar. 

Alicante appears at the top of the price increase, with 26.6%. In second place, although at a great distance, is Málaga, with 13.6%, followed by the area of s’Arenal, in Mallorca, with 10.9%. As for large cities, the price of hotel rooms rose by 10.1% in Madrid, 9.3% in Barcelona, 8.6% in Valencia, 2.2% in Sevilla and 2.1% in Bilbao

The most expensive room in Spain during 2017was in Barcelona (129 €), beating Madrid, with 109 €, and Bilbao, with 99 €. The three cities repeat the top three positions, as happened in 2016.

EUROPE

In the case of Europe, the price trend is also on the rise, with numerous cities recording increases. The ranking is headed by Prague (12%), followed by Mosc (10.3%) and Madrid, with 10.1%. The only city that saw its accommodation rates fall was Oslo with (-2.9%).  In Stockholm and Berlín there were no variations.

The most expensive average hotel room price in Europe is found in London and Zúrich, tied at 177 €, followed by Oslo (165 €) and Copenhagen (161 €). The cheapest rooms are in Istanbul (78 €), Warsaw (82 €) and Prague (84 €). 


WORLD RATE

The HRS study also analyzes the situation of hotel prices worldwide. Hotel prices have increased in Toronto (30.6%), Mexico City (17.4%) and Cape Town (12.7%).  However, there are also cities that have seen their prices decrease, such as Se (-25.1%), Kuala Lumpur (-20.3%), Río de Janeiro (-19.8%), Singapore (-6.4%), Tokyo (-5.8%) and Miami (-0.6%).

The highest average price remains in New York, at 250 €, the same amount as last year, followed by Washington, at 230 €. In third place appears as a novelty Sídney, with 196 €, above Tokyo, which in 2016 appeared in third place. The cheapest cities in which to stay are Kuala Lumpur (51 €), Bangkok (77 €) and Beijing (81 €).
