Amadeus Spain appoints Fernando Cuesta as new General Manager
Amadeus España has announced the appointment of Fernando Cuesta as general manager of Spain and Portugal, effective January 1, 2016. He will replace Paul de Villiers, who, as of Monday, November 2, will be the director of Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) at Amadeus IT Group.
Fernando Cuesta has been working in the Amadeus group for more than 10 years, where he has held different positions of responsibility (regional, global and local) related to the world of travel agencies and distribution.
In 2006 and for five years he held the position of director of Middle East and Africa, a management marked by strong growth and business development in this region. In 2010, Cuesta assumed responsibility for the Travel Agency Global Marketing department, so he has extensive knowledge of the Amadeus system and the differentiation of its products and services, as well as the travel distribution business.
In February of this year, he joined Amadeus Spain as commercial director and assistant to the General Management, where he has implemented a new form of relationship and value contribution to travel agencies to better meet their current and future needs.
Prior to his time at Amadeus Group, Cuesta worked in financial, strategy and business development areas in companies such as Telecom Italia, Unión Fenosa, PriceWaterhouseCoopers or Euskaltel. With a clear international vocation, he resided for five years in the USA for the start-up and business development of a start-up throughout the American continent. He is also a passionate traveler and has visited more than 60 countries around the world.
Fernando Cuesta holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a master's degree in Business Management from IESE and an MBA from IE Business School. He has also completed an advanced program in strategy and sales alignment at Harvard Business School.
After almost a day in the post, Paul de Villiers
has been appointed director of the Sub Saharan Africa region of Amadeus IT Group and will combine his new position with that of general manager of Amadeus Spain for two months.
