Mobile hotel bookings doubled in the past year

Hotels.com bookings made in Spain by mobile device users more than doubled during 2014. One in four bookings worldwide is handled through tablets or smartphones.

Spanish travelers are increasingly comfortable using their devices for all types of bookings. In fact, our country has a high share in the use of mobile devices in the online market (28%), behind the UK (41%) and the world average (30%), but ahead of countries such as the US (27%) and Germany (26%).

In terms of preferred device type, within Spanish oles shoppers there is a fairly even split between using the smartphone and the tablet for shopping. Three quarters of bookings go to 3 and 4-star accommodations.

During the fourth quarter of 2014, mobile traffic on Hotels.com exceeded 50% during the busiest days, with more than 50% of bookings being for same or next day stays and 65% for overnight accommodations.

According to data from Hotels.com's latest Hotel Price Index (HPI), more than one in four bookings globally were made with a mobile device through Expedia's brands.
