Fomento wants Chamartín to become Barajas Terminal 0

The Government has announced a plan to convert the Chamartín train station into the “terminal zero” of Barajas airport by reinforcing direct connections between the two infrastructures. This will be the first rail-airport hub in Spain.

According to the Ministry of Public Works, the project will be developed regardless of the success of the “Castellana Norte” project in the capital and will strengthen both infrastructures: the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport , the first air hub in southwest Europe, and the Chamart Madrid-Barajas Station , the first air hub in southwest Europe, and the Chamart Chamart Madrid-Barajas Station ;n de Chamartín as a new rail hub, as well as its interconnection and intermodality between air and rail transport.

In the opinion of the head of the department, Ana Pastor, who announcedó the measure at an event of the newspaper El Economista, "it is a unique project to get the most out of the investmentó n and to turn the capital of Spainña in the first rail-airport hub between Madrid and Barajas airport”.According to the minister, a point-to-point service will be provided between Chamart & iacute;n station and the airport, without intermediate stops.

Fomento's plans, which will be carried out in the next term of office if the current government's sign is maintained, take into account Chamartín as a key station for the new high-speed destinations in the north of Spain. The infrastructure will be renamed T0.
