Aena launches free wi-fi with no time limit at 12 Spanish airports
Free and unlimited connection is starting to become a reality at Spanish airports. The service, provided by Eurona Telecom Wireless, also offers a premium option that eliminates advertising and has a higher speed. It is expected to be available throughout the network by the end of this year.
The twelve airports that start with the project are: Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga, Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, La Coruña, Tenerife North, Tenerife South, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Las Palmas. The idea is to extend the service for the remainder of the year to cover the 46 airports and 2 heliports in the Aena network.
The free service, which is financed by advertising, covers only the basic needs, such as mail consultation and browsing up to 2 megabytes of downloading. However, it is an improvement on the connection offered by airports until now, which was 30 minutes of free wi-fi.
The premium service, with speeds of between 3 and 10 megabytes and no ads, is valid for web browsing and video viewing. It is offered in three modes: the básica, for a single device, costs 4.9 € (VAT included) for 24 hours of connection throughout the airport network; the family pack, valid for four devices at the same time for 24 hours, costs 9 euros; and the monthly subscription is priced at 15 €.
According to Eurona, this change in airport connectivity puts Spain at the forefront in time and quality of free Internet connection compared to other reference airports, such as London-Gatwick, where travelers have only 45 minutes of connection, or Brussels, Lisbon, Dubai and Sao Paulo, which only offer 30 minutes. The company already had a presence in 28 Spanish airports through Kubi Wireless, the operator the company acquired in 2013.
