Believe it or not, 16% of travellers spend 80% of a company’s travel budget. This was one of the findings shared in the 2nd Technology & Innovation Observatory for Business Travel report commissioned by Amadeus Spain. Developed by Forum Business Travel, a Madrid-based business travel think-tank, the survey is based on online interviews, focus groups, and face to face interviews with 150 travel managers. One of the main findings from the report is that self-booking online tools have substantially progressed during the last two years.

Forum Business Travel has offered in Barcelona and Madrid two conferences dedicated to the control of expenses during the trip, a chapter that sometimes represents a high percentage of the total cost of travel and that not all companies take into account. Due to the lack of automation of expense notes, it also implies that in many categories VAT is not recovered. Read more
Tickets that are lost or damaged, manual expense notes or in a simple Excel file… Companies have a poor control of the expenses generated during their employees' trips and that means slow administrative processes, as well as losing VAT recovery. Although there are technological solutions on the market, only a minority of companies use them.
