Spanish hotels close the year with a price increase of 3%.

The average rate of Spanish hotels at the end of 2016 is 98 euros, compared to 95 recorded in November last year, an increase of 3%, according to the latest THPI study by Trivago. Palma is the most expensive city and Lugo the cheapest.

Among the cities studied, Lugo (57 €), Lleida (60 €), Castellón (61 €), A Coruña (63 €) and Murcia (63 €) turn out to be the cheapest in December. At the other extreme are Palma (133 €), Barcelona (111 €), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (111 €) and Madrid (106 €) as the most expensive cities to stay overnight.

According to the variation in prices compared to last year, only the Spanish cities of Santander (4%), Santiago de Compostela (1%), Salamanca (1%) and Valencia (1%) have lower prices. Meanwhile, Cáceres (30%), Las Palmas (18%), Huesca (17%) and Badajoz (15%) are the cities where hotel rates increased the most.

In comparison with the previous month, in December stand out for lower prices Valencia (12%), Tarragona (5%), San Sebastián (5%) and Valladolid (5%). The opposite occurred in Granada, Segovia, Córdoba and Salamanca, where they have risen by 22%, 19% and 17%, respectively.

The Trivago Hotel Price Index (THPI) is a monthly study that analyzes the variation of the average price per double room in hotels in major European cities. To calculate the data, all hotels that are part of Trivago's database in all affiliated booking portals are taken into account.
