Spanish hotel rates rise 7.4% in the third quarter

Average hotel prices in major Spanish cities increased by 7.4% in the third quarter of 2016, continuing the upward trend of the first half of the year. Madrid, with an average price of ?97 per night, is the city that has registered the highest increase, with 10.2%, according to the Hotel Price Radar prepared by HRS.



The barometer of the global hotel solutions provider calculates, both annually and quarterly, the average prices of hotels between 1 and 5 stars in major cities around the world. In Spain, after Madrid, the highest increases were recorded in Zaragoza (+9.4%) and Bilbao (+8%). Among all the cities analyzed, Barcelona is the one with the highest average price, reaching 125 euros per night and a price increase of 3.3%.

In Europe, average hotel prices in 2016 also 

have risen compared to 2015. Zúrich (+18.1), Milán (+16.2%) and London (+14.6%) are the cities with the highest increases after reaching prices of ?170, ?129 and ?189, respectively. London is the most expensive city of the European destinations analyzed.

In contrast, Moscú (-25.6%), Athens (-8.5%) and París (-0.7%) are the only cities in this region where prices have fallen, averaging 93 euros, 97 euros and 138 euros, respectively. In Rome and Prague prices have remained stable.

In AméricaRío de Janeiro (-10.1%) is the  only city to have lowered prices, while Mexico City (+56.4%). New York, at 264 euros per night, is the most expensive city in the world.

Lastly, in Asia Kuala Lumpur in the cap chapter of rate decreases (-5.6%), compared to Bombay and Bangkok, which have risen the most in the last quarter: +32.9% and 31%, respectively. The Asian city with the highest prices is Tokyo, where an average of 172 euros per night is being paid.
