Spanish companies spend 71% of their travel budget on flights

Seventy percent of the corporate travel bill is concentrated on airfare, according to a study published by Diners Club Spain. Spending on low-cost companies only accounts for 6% of the budget.



Diners Club Spain has carried out the study among its corporate client portfolio, made up mostly of large and medium-sized Spanish companies, to find out the travel expenses incurred in 2012. According to the report, 80% of the travel bill is spent on transportation, either air (71%) or rail (9%).

61% of the air travel purchased by companies located in Spain was with the airlines Iberia, Vueling and Air Europa. On the other hand, only 6% of the flights were with low cost airlines, predominantly Easyjet and Ryanair.

46% of the flights purchased by Spanish companies were international, the vast majority toEuropean destinations. By far the two most frequent domestic destinations were Madrid and Barcelona, which accounted for 33% of flights. Most of the train journeys were also made between these two cities.

With regard to accommodation, the survey shows that the sum of the percentages for one- or two-night hotel stays reached 81% 81% of the total.

Among the cities most visited by frequent travelers is again Madrid, with 19%, followed by Barcelona, with 9%.

With respect to the travel agencies, a vast majority of corporate groups work with a single intermediary. The five largest agencies in the Spanish market account for 93% of spending on this concept.
