Spaniards are among the favorite passengers for cab drivers around the world

Spanish travelers are among the favorite passengers for cab drivers around the world, among other reasons because they are among the highest tippers. This is revealed by the latest "Taxi Survey" carried out by Hoteles.com, which also points out that they are also preferred by cab drivers in our country.



The favorite customers of Spanish cab drivers are nationals, with 27% of the votes, ahead of Brits (23%) and Germans (20%). Globally, Spaniards are the favorite passengers for cab drivers around the world with 6.3% 6.3% of the vote, behind only tourists Americans (24.3%), British (11.1%) and Japanese (8.6%).

As for the best proper, North American tourists clearly lead this ranking worldwide for 50.4% of cab drivers worldwide. Spanish drivers also agree that Americans are the most generous tippers with 53.3% of the votes. The British, with 8.6%, and the Japanese with 7.8%, rank second and third globally.

On the other hand, contrary to peaks that place Spanish travelers as ungenerous abroad, domestic travelers rank eighth worldwide in terms of tipping levels, surpassed by Norwegians, Germans, Brazilians and Australians.

As for favorite destination points for domestic cab drivers, the airport is clearly the favorite choice for 57% of respondents, well ahead of downtown locations (17%) or residential neighborhoods (16%). These results coincide with those obtained globally who also opt for the airport as their favorite choice (34%).

Madrid stands out in all rankings compared to other major cities around the world. The Spanish capital was the number one choice in all categories, while some international cities, such as London, failed in price and friendliness; New York, in cleanliness; Lisbon, in local knowledge; Rome, in driving quality; Athens, in safety; and Paris, in availability.

Within our borders, Madrid cabs are also among the favorite options for Spanish passengers, as they are the best in terms of knowledge of the area (20%) or availability (40%).Barcelona leads in other categories, such as cleanliness (15%) and driving quality (15%).

As for the best rated Spanish cities for the price of their cabs, Granada, Cádiz and Seville occupy the top positions in the table. Again Madrid, along with Bilbao, Granada and Seville, occupy the top places in friendliness of their cab drivers.

The Spanish capital is also at the top of the list in safety, with 35% of the votes, and availability (40%). The cab service with the lowest availability in Spain for respondents is in Almería, Cádiz and Huelva.

Of this set of categories, Spanñoles highlighted that price is their top priority when using a cab as a means of transport (30%), ahead of other criteria such as safety (18%), cleanliness (13%) or availability (13%).

Wifi, the most desired service

In relation to the behavior of Spaniards when taking a cab, 52.6% say they do so when traveling for leisure or work ahead of other traditional means of transport such as train or car. In addition, 75% would like cabs to be equipped with Wi-Fi, the most desired service ahead of card payment (65%) and newspapers or magazines (40%).

Asked about the average amount spent per ride, 40% of Spaniards say that the final amount is between 11 and 25 euros, compared to 35% who normally pay between 0 and 10 euros, and 25% who pay between 25 and 50 euros. Some 50% say they always round up the final amount when it comes to tipping while 40% say they don't tip often when traveling in our country.

On the other hand, despite the irruption of numerous applications móviles to book a cab, only 10% claims to choose this channel normally. Seventy percent choose to stop by hand, while the remaining 20% opt to book the service by phone.
