Renfe begins to offer wi-fi access on board some of the Madrid-Seville AVE high-speed trains
One year after awarding the contract to Tel & eacute; fonica, Renfe begins tomorrow to offer Internet access via wi-fi on some of the trains that cover the high-speed line between Madrid and Seville, a first step to extend the service to the entire AVE fleet.
In principle, the operator will give a choice between two types of service: one basic and free for all travelers, and another paid, allowing higher capacity connections to enjoy audiovisual content.
The service starts in some of the trains that cover the route of the high-speed line between Madrid and Seville and will be extended to other high-speed routes. To provide this service, the company has set up the platform PlayRenfe.
The company's president, Pablo Vñ Pablo Vázquez, assured last summer that this year 19 high-speed trains will have wi-fi and a total of 89 by the end of 2017. In mid-April, Adif began a pilot experience in the Madrid-Chamartín train station to provide free wi-fi Internet connection service, in collaboration with the stores of the facilities and in alliance with Vodafone.
