New payment solution to settle ancillaries at the airport

From now on, paying at airports is going to be easier. Amadeus and Ingenico are launching Amadeus Airport Pay, the first wireless solution that accepts EMV chip card payments and can be used with multiple airlines, ground handling companies and banks.

With Amadeus Airport Pay, airlines and ground handlers can reach any passenger with an EMV chip card or EMV-compliant e-wallet at any airport in the world, regardless of the airport's billing infrastructure. This means that airlines worldwide can quickly adopt the solution.

As a result, airlines can achieve more sales of ancillary services, offering travelers a fast and secure way to overcome the payment hassles generally encountered at many airports today. As Amadeus Airport Pay is not tied to any physical infrastructure, airlines and ground handlers can accept payments anywhere in the airport. At the moment, Lufthansa Group has started deploying this solution at check-in counters and offices at its airports worldwide.

Amadeus also makes it possible for airlines and operators to easily connect with the banks of their choice. The solution can be fully integrated into the airline's sales flow, enabling faster, more accurate and automatically referenced sales payments.

According to Celia Pereiro, head of Travel Payments at Amadeus, "travelers will have peace of mind that their payments are secure thanks to EMV technology. Airlines and handling operators, meanwhile, can make travel much more pleasant, for example, by having staff approach the traveler while in line to offer a complementary service.

With more than 5 billion chip cards in circulation worldwide, EMV has become the leading face-to-face card payment technology. EMV significantly improves the way payment card fraud is detected and prevented, as EMV cards have enhanced anti-fraud capabilities at the physical point of sale.

At airports, EMV terminals are present in duty free stores, but they are still rare at airline check-in counters.
