Hotel prices increase 10% in June compared to 2014
España increases by 10% compared to last year to reach 112 euros on average per room, while the European average stands at 153 euros per night, as revealed by the tHPI study of trivago.es. Madrid, Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha, the regions with the highest increases.
Among the cities studied, those with the lowest prices this month are Castellón (56€), Murcia (59€), Lleida (60€), Huesca (62€) and Teruel (62€). In contrast, Barcelona (162€), Palma de Mallorca (161€), San Sebastián (136€), Madrid (116€) and Cádiz (115€), are the cities where staying overnight is most expensive this month.
In Alicante prices are up 15% over last month, the largest increase, going from 78€ to 90€ on average. It is followed by Gijón (+14%), Cádiz (+13%) and San Sebastián (+12%), the cities where prices are more expensive compared to May. Meanwhile, Córdoba (-43%) and Seville (-25%) are the cities where prices have fallen the most.
If the year-on-year variation is taken into account, Lugo has the highest price increase, 42%, followed by Santa Cruz (+28%), Toledo (+28%) and Cáceres (+27%). The only cities where prices fell were Lleida (-6%), Teruel (-3%) and Girona (-1%).
The Balearic Islands and Catalonia are the only regions that exceed 112 euros on average costing an overnight stay in Spain, offering an average price of 157€ and 137€ each. Meanwhile, Murcia (70€), Asturias (70€) and Aragón (71€) are the communities with the cheapest prices.
Extremadura, Comunidad Valenciana and País Vasco (+6% in all), are the regions experiencing the largest month-on-month increases, although Islas Baleares stands out for the largest increase over May, up 25%. On the opposite side is Murcia and Madrid, where prices are down 10% in both.
All communities increase average prices compared to last year, with Madrid the community that leads the largest increases, 21%, followed by Extremadura (20%) and Castilla-La Mancha (19%).
EUROPE
The cheapest European countries, whose price is below 100 euros, are Bulgaria (60€), Romania (66€), Poland (77€) and Hungary (94€). In contrast, Switzerland (238€) and the United Kingdom (180€), are the most expensive.
As for the price variations with respect to last month, it is in Greece where prices increase the most, by 15%, and in the Czech Republic, where they fall the most (-19%).
When looking at the year-on-year variation, Portugal is the European country where prices have increased the most (22%). For example, in the two main tourist cities, Lisbon and Porto, prices have risen by 39% and 81%, respectively, compared to 2014. For its part, Russia continues to represent the biggest decrease (-8%).
