Hotel prices in Spain increase by 10% in the year-on-year index for April

Hotel rates in Spain increased by 10% in April compared to the same month last year, according to the tHPI study by trivago.es. The average price stands at 110 euros, below the 134 recorded in Europe. Seville is the city with the highest increase compared to last month.

 

 

Throughout the country there was a generalized increase in hotel prices, with Aragon standing out for having the highest year-on-year increase in hotel prices (+20%). It is in this same community where the cities with the highest increase and decrease in prices compared to April 2014 are located: Zaragoza (+29%) and Huesca (-27%).

Among the cities studied, those with the cheapest prices this month are Vigo (54€), Lleida (60€), Lugo (62€), A Coru (63€) and Murcia (63€).

In contrast, Barcelona (149€), Palma de Mallorca (149€), Sevilla (143€), Córdoba (128€) and Toledo (113€), are the most expensive cities to stay overnight and the only ones that exceed the Spanish average of 110&euro.

In the city of Seville prices increased by 59% with respect to last month, the largest increase, going from 90€ to 143€ on average. Meanwhile, Córdoba, with an average price of 128€, is the second city where prices are more expensive, specifically a 42%. Only in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Valencia lower the average price compared to March, by 14% and 10% respectively.

If the year-on-year variation is taken into account,Zaragoza presents the highest price increase, 29%, followed by Castellón (+27%), Toledo (+24%), Sevilla (+23%) and Lugo (+22%). In contrast, the city starring in the biggest year-on-year decline is Huesca, where prices are down 27% this month compared to last year.

The archipelagos and Cataluña are the only regions that exceed the Spanish average of 110 euros. The Balearic Islands is the region where it is most expensive to stay overnight this month (139€), followed by Cataluña (128€) and the Canary Islands (114€). Asturias (69€), Galicia (73€) and Murcia (75€) are the Communities with the cheapest prices.

Andalucía, Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León, are the communities experiencing the highest increases monthly, 26%, 23% and 22% respectively. On the opposite side is the Canary Islands, the only community where the average price fell by 14% compared to March.

All over Spain there was a general increase in prices, with Aragon leading the way with the highest year-on-year price increases of 20%, followed by Cantabria (18%), Castilla-La Mancha (17%) and Madrid (17%). Only the Valencian Community maintains the same price level as a year ago.

IN EUROPE

This month, the cheapest European countries in which to stay are Bulgaria (59€), Romaniaía (62€) and Poland (68€). In contrast, Switzerland (212€), United Kingdom (158€) and Norway (148€), record the highest average hotel prices.

As for price variations with respect to last month, it is in Czech Republic where they increase the most, by 38%, and in Switzerland, where they fall the most (-9%). If the year-on-year variation is observed,Hungary is the European country where prices have increased the most (22%) while Russia still represents the biggest decrease (-24%).
