Globalia obtains rail operator license to compete with Renfe

Globalia has obtained a license that qualifies it as a rail operator to compete with Renfe in passenger transport by train. The group chaired by Juan José Hidalgo has obtained this authorization through the subsidiary company Iberrail Spanish Railroads.

Globalia has obtained this authorization through the subsidiary company Iberrail Spanish Railroads.

Hidalgo's company thus joins the eight companies that already have a license and a safety certificate to enter the sector. These are the construction companies ACS, Acciona, Ferrovial and Comsa; the bus transport companies Alsa and Interbú the Planeta group through its company Veloi Rai; and the Andalusian firm Eco Rail.

Globalia has obtained the administrative approval while the Government is finalizing the gradual opening to competition of the sector through the tendering of a public tender to choose the first private company that will break Renfe's monopoly in passenger transport by train.

By virtue of the tender, the Ministry of Public Works will grant an "enabling title" to a private operator to compete with the public railway company in the "Levante corridor".

With the acquisition of this license, Globalia is committed to diversify and extend to the railway business the activity it develops in the field of air transport, through Air Europa, travel management (Halcón Viajes), hotels (Be Live) and as a tour operator (Travelplán).
