Cash payments continue to be popular in Europe, especially in Spain.
As good as the arguments against it are, especially for business travelers, Europeans continue to advocate the use of cash payments, especially Spaniards. In fact, 80% of smaller transactions are carried out cash in hand, according to a Paysafecard survey of 4,000 users of eight nationalities.
Spanish people continue to be staunch defenders of cash. Our country is one of those with the most cash in circulation in the euro zone, to the point that 80% of small payments are made by hand. It seems that plastic money, although widespread, does not reach smaller transactions.
According to the results of a survey conducted by the company Paysafecard to more than 4.000 users between 18 and 69 years old and of 8 different nationalities, it is clear from all countries that cash is still very popular in Europe.
Spain is among the top of the ranking, where a good part of the respondents opt for this payment system, stating that they are still reluctant to use credit cards or give personal information on the Internet.
There is no doubt that the most secure data is data that is not shared, which is why more and more people are becoming wary of revealing their credit card number or IBAN without concern. Consumers prefer solutions that are workable without the need to disclose such data.
In practice, a study by the German Bundesbank federal bank revealed that 96% of all transactions under EUR 5 are paid in cash. As the value increases, the proportion of cash transactions decreases to 24% for transactions over EUR 500.
As more and more money is now being moved over the Internet, the demand for cash payments in online commerce is just as strong as in physical stores. Cash-based solutions are available for this, even though the last step of the payment process is done digitally.
