Air Europa activates its new emissions offsetting program

As part of its commitment to the environment and as part of its sustainability plans, Air Europa has launched a carbon footprint offsetting program. The project, carried out in conjunction with the climate technology company Chooose, enables it to accurately calculate the emissions per passenger on each flight.

Thanks to this, customers are offered, in the process of purchasing their tickets, the possibility of making an additional contribution that will be used to finance different environmental projects to offset the CO2 footprint of the flight.

The system provides the user with accurate information about the impact of his flight and provides him, in a very simple way, with an effective way to offset the emissions generated per passenger. The system generates automatically the result of the emissions calculation and the amount that can be contributed to the offset, as well as a link to make the payment.

The passenger will be able to choose compensation projects in destinations with which Air Europa connects to make an additional contribution that will serve to carry them out and thus contribute to reduce the impact on the environment.

The first is being carried out in Mexico and seeks to improve the conditions of local communities through regenerative forest management and the reduction of carbon emissions in a natural way.

The second project, in Brazil, seeks to reduce greenhouse emissions caused by deforestation, as well as promote social welfare and biodiversity conservation.

Air Europa's new offset system is also integrated with its loyalty program. Members of Air Europa SUMA who contribute to balancing emissions will receive Level Miles as an incentive, depending on the amount contributed. These are the ones that allow program customers both to access higher categories and to maintain the category in which they are (SUMA Silver, SUMA Gold and SUMA Platinum).
